Diaper Cake Time!!!

Well, as I promised last week, I've decided to post a tutorial on how to make diaper cakes!

Of course, there are many ways to go about making diaper cakes, and millions of ways to decorate them. Here is my spin on an owl themed boy's diaper cake. :)

First gather your supplies. You'll need:

1. Diapers: 1-2 pkgs of size 1 diapers, and maybe 1 additional pkg of newborn diapers, depending on how big you want to make it. (I used 2 pkgs of size 1 for this cake.)

2. Rubber bands in assorted sizes. You'll need a LOT of the 1" diameter rubber bands and quite a few of the larger bands which stretch REALLY wide.

3. Ribbon to match your theme/colors

4. Scissors

5. A hot glue gun and/or an assortment of large and small safety pins.

6. Baby gear: I use bottles and baby wash as "filling," and add receiving blankets as "fondant." you can also add small toys, pacifiers, or baby hygiene items as decoration.

7. At least 1 large cardboard cake circle (I have even used a pizza box that was cut to size!!! Teehee.)

Now that you have all your supplies, it's time to start your cake!!

A. Open your packages of diapers. Roll each diaper, starting from the waistband. Secure the rolled diaper using a small rubber band.

B. Using the baby wash as a base, I secured the rolled up diapers around the baby wash using one of the larger rubber bands. Keep adding diapers all the way around until you have the desired width and height for your first layer. (this is the layer you should have your cardboard under)

C. In the same fashion, use bottles or other items to make the bases of your smaller tiers. Stack one tier on top of the other. You can always secure the tiers together to keep them as a whole, but I have found that if you keep the layers separate, they are easier to transport and set up later-- especially if you're showing them at a baby shower.

D. If you have a helper like I did, have your helper assist you in placing all the diapers into the rubber bands :)

E. Once you have all the tiers completed, you can begin decorating! I used receiving blankets as a kind of "fondant," lol. Use the large rubber bands to keep the blankets in place.

F. Now, cut and place your ribbons to hide the rubber bands! These are most easily attached by using hot glue. You CAN glue them the the blankets, but if you have wide enough ribbon, it's best to measure the ribbon about an inch longer and glue the overlapping ribbon to itself. Then just layer your ribbon to get the desired effect.

G. Now that you've put your ribbon on, you can continue to decorate. Since this was an owl themed cake, I used brown paper Easter grass to make a "nest," on the tops of the tiers. I then added my wooden owl characters and the letters for the baby's name. I placed a stuffed owl on the top, and added 2 gumdrop pacifiers to the top nest.

Voila!! An owl themed diaper cake! This whole process only took about 2 hours. I probably could have shaved an hour off though, if my helper wasn't "helping," so much! Lol.

Hope this was helpful! I'll be doing another tutorial soon on 3-D Pop Out Wall Decor that's great for baby rooms!! :)

Easy Peasy

Now, it's been a LONG while since I wrote a blog. So I thought I might start off with a joke!!

Now, if anyone out there is weird like me and has toilet anxiety when it comes to automatic flushing toilets, I have a simple solution for you.

This came to me from the PostSecret app when it was still in function.

All you have to do to ease your toilet anxiety is place a strip of TP over the little sensor on the toilet.

Voila!! Worry free tinkle time! :)

Now that we have that covered, I'll be working on a diaper cake tutorial soon, so check back later this week! :)
